A Brief History

Barker & Associates LLC was founded in 1990 by Rick Barker, who has been in the Employee Benefits market since 1980. Since then, the brokerage has established itself as a leader in providing quality health insurance, welfare benefits, and other employee benefit services to more than 500 businesses, employees, and individuals throughout the state of Washington. In 2010, Barker & Associates LLC expanded to also offer property and casualty insurance to individuals and businesses all over the state by becoming part of ISU Insurance Solutions Group LLC. The excellent reputation, outstanding customer service, and longstanding independence of both brokerages made them a perfect match. We are now a full service brokerage that can meet all your insurance needs and provide excellent service for each of your policies.

We contribute a large part of our success to remaining a completely independent brokerage, not owned by any one carrier or securities firm. Barker & Associates LLC remains a small business, just like yours. We understand your needs in today’s insurance climate, because we have the same needs ourselves. Not only that, but our independence allows us to always put your interests first: we can utilize our strong relationships with many of the nation’s leading carriers to get you the most competitive products for your unique needs and goals.

Rick Barker

Owner and Principal

Rick started Barker & Associates over 25 years ago and since then has successfully helped over 200 businesses with their employee benefits, property, and liability insurance needs. Having built his own business from the ground up, Rick understands the issues and burdens that business owners face because he has navigated them himself. He enjoys working with other business owners to protect their businesses, plan for the future, and allow their employees to thrive. Rick is a CLU, Chartered Financial Consultant, and a Registered Employee Benefits Consultant. He lives with his wife in Duvall and enjoys woodworking, hiking, and biking, not to mention he is an avid Seahawks fan.

Lexi Barron

Lexi brings her knowledge of insurance and liability together to offer clients a unique expertise. She graduated Cum Laude from the Seattle University School of Law and is a licensed attorney. Her background in business law and contracts gives her a unique perspective on liability that most brokers don’t have. She enjoys assisting businesses with risk management and has also worked with employee benefits for many years. In addition to evaluating her clients’ business and personal insurance needs, Lexi’s experience in the horse industry, and passion for horses, qualifies her as a top broker for equine professionals, barn owners, and horse owners. Lexi and David live in Snohomish and love to hike and ride horses in the beautiful PNW!

David grew up traveling the world with his family, until they settled on a farm in Zimbabwe, where he learned to ride, play polo and shoe horses. Since leaving Africa, he has worked in England, Italy, Kenya, Dubai, and a host of U.S. states before coming home to Snohomish, WA. Throughout his extensive travels, he has been exposed to many different types of people, businesses, and entrepreneurialism. Having started and managed many companies himself, David has firsthand knowledge of the many needs small businesses have. Focusing on employee benefits and commercial insurance allows him to best assist other business owners to manage their risk and attract the best employees. David still enjoys blacksmithing and is always up for more travel adventures! David has passed his CFEI exam and the AAI credential. This year (2020) he has been admitted to further his business studies through a BSci program in Business administration.

Melonie has been in the insurance business since 1979 and with ISU Insurance Solutions Group for 20 years, servicing all types of businesses, small and large, with expertise that is appreciated by all of our clients. Her many contacts in the industry allow her to get quick answers from the carriers for any questions clients have, if she doesn’t already know the answer herself. She most enjoys working with unusual businesses that have special liability exposures. Melonie and her husband live in Snohomish with their two dogs. She loves all kinds of music and playing piano for fun and at events.
